Charter Hosts Art Exhibit of Ceramic Tiles and Murals
Santa Fe, NM (05/14/04) Charter Bank⋅Mortgage⋅Insurance is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibit of hand-decorated ceramic tiles and murals by a local family of artisans. The artists create a unique synthesis of art, ornament and architecture in every installation. Tile art was reformed during the mid-1800's Arts and Crafts Movement which promoted the collaborative effort between architecture, the "decorative" arts and the "fine" arts. This design reform movement revived an appreciation of "Art Tile" - fine, hand-executed art that has a timeless and permanent place in our environment.
The exhibit is organized by Charter Bank⋅Mortgage⋅Insurance and was inspired by the historic tile details at the newly-renovated downtown branch, previously the Kaune grocery store, designed by renowned architect, John Gaw Meem.
CounterPoint Tile, owned by Nancy and Garrott Smith, has assembled a contemporary collection of tiles and murals that include installations by sisters Ronda and Connie Kay, and Connie's daughter, Sierra Kay. Charter Bank client Christine Fitzgerald of Mag Mor Studio will be displaying hand-pulled and hand-painted silk-screened art tile.
The exhibit opens Friday, May 21st with a reception hosted by Charter Bank⋅Mortgage⋅Insurance at 208 Washington Avenue from 4 to 7 p.m. The exhibit continues until June 26th.
