President and CEO Awarded Distinguished Service Award by MBA

Albuquerque, N.M. (11/01/06) R. Glenn Wertheim, President & Chief Executive Officer, Charter Mortgage, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) in recognition for his twenty plus years of unwavering commitment and dedication to the mortgage lending industry. Wertheim has served as a political advocate for the mortgage industry through his unbiased opinion and support of the mortgage industry as a whole. MBA Chairman Regina Lowrie stated that her first call as MBA Chairman was to Glenn to ensure that he would serve on the board of directors with her. She also noted that Glenn carries on the legacy of his father, Robert Wertheim, Chairman, Charter Bank Mortgage Insurance, as a true advocate for the entire mortgage industry. Wertheim was presented with the award in a ceremony held at the MBA's 93rd Annual Convention & Expo in Chicago.

Nominees for the annual award must be associated with the MBA member firm, have a record of sustained and extraordinary service to MBA and the mortgage industry, and have a strong reputation for ethical and professional conduct.

"Glenn is an incredibly smart, astute, thoughtful professional," said MBA Chairman Regina Lowrie, CMB. "His is a consummate diplomat who has consistently given his personal time for the industry, Mortgage Bankers Association and its members."

Wertheim has been an active member of the MBA for over 20 years. Not only did he professionalize the management and oversight of the MBA's investments, but under his stewardship MBA's reserves grew from $35 million at the end of 2001 to $68 million at the end of 2005. He was a member of the 2000, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 MBA Board of Directors. In addition, he has also served as a member of the Residential Board of Governors Legislative Steering Committee in 2002, the Residential Board of Governors in 2003 and the Research Institute for Housing America's (a housing finance think tank affiliated with MBA) Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2002. In 2006 he served on the Commercial Multifamily Mortgage Banking Committee, The GSE Policy Task Force and the Audit Committee.
